Where do you shop for plus size fashion for 40 and over?! Shopping for clothes can definitely be difficult for any plus size person.
But if you are a plus size shopper 40+ and over, you’ve brought in an additional shopping dilemma. With the strides that plus size designers and retailers over the years, it can still be a struggle to find trendy, age-appropriate plus size fashion.
We have been seeing some great plus size fashion trends already for the upcoming spring season, which I’m sure we are all pretty excited about! Looking forward to getting those lighter, brighter fabrics out of the closet and out in the sunshine!
If you want to be on-trend but aren’t into the more revealing or super youthful cuts and prints, you don’t have to feel left out of the trends! You have to know where to look! There is nothing wrong with a cute cropped sweater, but you may not want every sweater in your spring wardrobe to be cropped or off the shoulder.

Thanks to everyone! Most lists show places that specialize in clothes a little too young looking for me, or at least outside the scope of what I need 90% of the time. I find “play clothes” pretty easy. It’s the work stuff where it goes awry.
I will also share that I have been having decent luck with JCrew’s plus sizes. I’m top heavy, so the shirts aren’t great, but I’m loving the pants and they’re machine washable.
You had us at machine washable!!!
Eloquii !! They are always (and more and more) on trend.
YES! So true, love Eloquii!
ASOS is killing me lately. I am 59 and like trendy but not teenager-y or 20-something clothes– but ASOS has been so huge (and I am a US 24) that it’s hard to shop there. I can’t get the size right. And the fabric can also be bad. I don’t want to look like a geriatric Billie Eilish
Actually, I think Torrid has some of the best fitting clothes at this point for my particular size and shape, and you can weed out what doesn’t work if you’re an older person.
I want to echo what Candace said. I’m 46 and Torrid has a lot of great fitting stuff, even though a lot of the stuff are for fans of things that my first response tends to be, “it’s cool to like this now?” or “this would look cute on my bff’s teenage daughter”
Eloquii is also great for lower cost workwear like — their sweater dresses were my go to this past winter
In my youth I was all about low cut, short skirts, leather, Doc Martens and black everything. I would say I’m classic-trendy now. Here’s where and what I shop at age 61, size 22, 5’11” tall:
JCrew – just got a puffy sleeve navy pinstripe cotton blouse to wear under a navy wool sweater vest. Last year I got a pink teddy coat I adore, and two short sleeved wool sweaters for a ’60’s vibe. Love their long blazers with jeans. Velvet camisoles and velvet wide-legged crops for holidays.
ASOS – I don’t have the time anymore, to plow through their too-sexy inventory for the few items I’d wear, but two years ago I got a gorgeous khaki patent leather trench coat. Three years ago, a couple of satin Asian-inspired dresses.
Talbots – blazers and blouses to wear with jeans.
J Jill – silk velvet tunics, cashmere or cotton tunic sweaters.
Nordstrom Rack and HauteLook – short kimono jackets, just sexy-enough cocktail dresses.
Naturalizer and Aerosoles – recently, tall wide-calf boots (size 12 with 19″ calves) at Naturalizer and darling shearling shoes/boots/sandals at Aerosoles.
Shopping exclusively online, I check prices frequently and can usually get things at a price I find acceptable, for me.
Love your newsletter; thanks for the great articles and resources!
It is just too bad that the high end designers still do not have plus sizes. Would love a Canada Goose or Mackage jacket. Just to name a few. Most plus size clothing is not high quality, it has gotten better over the years.
Many of the places mentioned are places are some of my favorite… One that I don’t see mentioned is eShakti.com I love their custom work. I also find the pricing good.
