Infused with ceramides and the super-hydrator Hyaluronic Acid 4D, it’s perfect for battling the drying effects of cooler weather while plumping and smoothing your complexion.

Donkey milk, with its vitamins and minerals, locks in moisture and softens your skin, while argan oil, affectionately dubbed “liquid gold,” helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, leaving your skin smooth and radiant. And let’s not forget the ceramide complex that acts as your skin’s bodyguard, sealing in moisture and shielding against environmental stressors. Whether you’re facing brisk winds or dry indoor heat, this moisturizer ensures your skin stays resilient, nourished, and glowing. Ready to indulge in a hydration haven? This is your fall skincare MVP!

Burke Williams Spa’s H2V Beyond Tightening Hydration Mask

If pumpkin spice lattes are the ultimate fall treat for your taste buds, this mask is its equivalent for your face! The Burke Williams Beyond mask is infused with pumpkin enzymes, which are not only seasonally on-trend but a real treat and skin savior for the fall season.

According to Dr. Konstantin Vasyukevich, NYC’s top double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, “Pumpkin is packed with antioxidants that soothe dry skin and help remove dead cells from the surface while balancing oil production.” It’s perfect for acne-prone skin, thanks to the mix of enzymes and AHAs that control breakouts.

Add this mask to your fall lineup to take advantage of its combination of ginseng and honey. These ingredients work hand-in-hand to hydrate, tighten, and purify your skin. For an even more luxurious experience, pair it with a face steamer during your self-care routine to enhance the enzymatic action and get that spa-like glow.

Masktini’s WHOA! LIT Brightening Booster

Looking for a simple way to elevate your skincare routine with minimal effort? Enter Masktini’s WHOA! LIT brightening booster. This product packs a punch with hero ingredients like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid.

As Dr. Vasyukevich shares, “Hyaluronic acid helps keep skin hydrated as the air dries out, but it should always be paired with other ingredients like niacinamide to be effective.” WHOA! LIT does just that, keeping your skin plump, hydrated, and radiant while also regulating pigmentation and supporting collagen production.

This booster is great for daily use and is especially helpful as the cooler months can leave your skin looking dull. With consistent application, you’ll see a more even skin tone and a noticeable reduction in age spots. Plus, it tightens your skin and minimizes pores, making it a true fall must-have.

Oxygenetix’s Hydro-Matrix Moisturizer

Finding a lightweight yet hydrating moisturizer that lasts all day can be a challenge, but Oxygenetix has you covered with its Hydro-Matrix. This hydrating complex not only delivers oxygen to your skin but also provides long-lasting moisture that your skin craves during fall.

Its base of aloe vera makes it extra soothing for any irritation or sensitivity brought on by the cooler weather. Dr. Vasyukevich emphasizes that “Aloe is safe for all skin types and is great for reducing redness, inflammation, and tightness that often comes with cooler temperatures.”

Whether you’ve had a laser or peel treatment or just need something calming for everyday use, this product is a powerhouse in keeping your skin comfortable and hydrated all day long.

SISH Beauty Waterless Skincare Tablet

For those constantly on the go, SISH Beauty offers an innovative solution with their waterless skincare tablet. Just activate with water and steam, and you’ve got an instant facial treatment that smooths, brightens, and renews your skin in one easy step.

The star ingredient here? Bamboo! Dr. Vasyukevich highlights that “Bamboo is rich in antioxidants and silica, which helps keep your skin supple and elastic.” It’s an excellent addition to your fall and winter skincare routine, especially when pollution and environmental stressors can wreak havoc on your complexion. This tablet is also travel-friendly, making it the perfect skin savior for all your holiday trips.

These fall skincare must-haves not only prep your skin for the cooler season but also indulge it with ingredients that deliver long-term benefits. So, whether you’re looking for that post-spa glow at home or want a product that keeps your skin hydrated throughout the day, these skin saviors have you covered!

Sports Illustrated plus size models deserve all the spotlight!

If you didn’t know, in 2016, runway star Ashley Graham made history as the first voluptuous woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. The show-stopping beauty was featured in a purple-and-yellow bikini on the front of the publication’s celebrated swimsuit issue, which spawned a new age in the body positivity movement.

At the time, Graham spoke to People magazine about what the representation meant not only for her but also for fellow full-figured ladies around the globe. “I thought Sports Illustrated was taking a risk by putting a girl my size in the pages,” the once-rookie told the outlet. “But putting me on the cover? They aren’t just breaking barriers; they are the standard now. This is beyond epic!”

“Girls who are insecure about their bodies, girls who feel ‘fat,’ girls who have cellulite, girls who have stretch marks on their body — those are all the things that I had as a kid, and I never had a woman like me growing up to look at,” she added. “I had my mother, and that’s one thing, but to have somebody who has cellulite, who has things that jiggle, who has back fat and talk about how you can be an overcomer and not let society take you down for all of that… that’s real.”

Sports Illustrated debuted in 1954 and has since served as a leading force in sports media. The news empire was founded by the late journalist Stuart Scheftel. It became widely known for its annual swimwear section, which began in 1964 and featured numerous (mainly fit) female celebrities posing for the spread.

“The moment that I got the cover and saw it for the first time, I knew that my life was going to change forever,” Graham gushed in a YouTube video about the experience. “Big girls are here to stay! You know what I’m saying?”

Ultimately, Graham’s groundbreaking accomplishment catapulted her to global stardom, paving the way and opening the door for other larger-framed queens to make their mark. And today, we are sharing the other Sports Illustrated plus size models who you should know and follow!

Hey, curvy besties! Did you know there are plus size pageants you can participate in? Yes! Real-life plus size pageant queens. If you did (or didn’t) and are interested in understanding the plus size pageant world, you’re in the right place.

The plus size pageant world celebrates confidence, self-love, and beauty beyond size. These pageants allow women of all body types to take center stage, embrace their curves, and challenge traditional pageantry norms.

What Are Plus Size Pageants?

Miss Plus America 2021

Plus size pageants are competitions for women who wear larger clothing sizes, typically starting at size 12 and up. These events provide a platform where curvy women can compete in categories like evening wear, talent, interviews, and sometimes swimsuits—just like in traditional pageants. However, they go beyond surface-level beauty by focusing on confidence, intelligence, and how contestants present themselves.

What truly sets plus size pageants apart is their mission to challenge societal beauty standards. They promote body positivity and emphasize that beauty comes in all sizes. Contestants are encouraged to showcase their unique qualities, strengths, and personal stories. These competitions are about more than just a crown; they offer empowerment, representation, and inspiration.

Why The Plus Pageants Network (PPN) Is Important

According to the Plus Pageants Network (PPN), it is a valuable resource for those new to this world or seeking guidance. Established in 2013, PPN connects local, national, and international queens, pageant directors, and businesses within the pageant industry. PPN promotes the importance of participation and representation in plus size pageantry while raising awareness about the impact these events have on the plus size community.

It’s More Than Just Looks

While looking your best is essential, plus size pageants focus on much more than physical appearance: Judges value personality, community involvement, and poise. You’ll need to practice public speaking, develop your personal story, and consider how you can inspire others.

Prepare to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Entering a plus size pageant can feel intimidating, especially if you’re not used to the spotlight. But the experience is worth it. Contestants often leave feeling more confident and empowered. You’ll walk on stage, answer questions, and sometimes perform a talent. It can be nerve-wracking—but also exciting!

Your Wardrobe Matters

How you present yourself is a significant part of competing. Most pageants feature categories like evening gowns and cocktail dresses, and sometimes swimsuit or fitness wear competitions.

Find outfits that give you confidence, work with you, and make you feel like the queen you are. Don’t hesitate to invest in a skilled tailor or designer who specializes in plus size fashion.

There’s a Strong Community

Plus size pageants foster a sense of community. Many contestants form lifelong friendships and become each other’s biggest supporters. The atmosphere is often less about competition and more about celebrating each other. When understanding the plus size pageant world, you’ll see it’s a place of empowerment and solidarity.

There Are Fees and Commitments

Competing involves financial and time commitments. Entry fees, wardrobe costs, and travel expenses can add up. Most pageants also require participation in rehearsals and community events leading up to the competition. Be sure to factor in these commitments before signing up.

A Few of the Plus Size Pageants to Know

If you’re ready to dive into the excitement of competing, here’s a list of some of the most popular plus size pageants to consider:

Understanding the plus size pageant world means recognizing that it’s about more than just winning a title. It celebrates body diversity, fosters confidence, and redefines beauty standards.

Whether you’re a contestant or a supporter, plus size pageants offer an empowering experience. Women of all shapes are proving that beauty is diverse—and the stage is open for everyone.

Like many sports, ballet is one of those athletic art forms that has lacked diversity and inclusivity since its origination in the fifteenth century. However, today, plus size ballerinas have proven that the talent within the dance industry doesn’t rely on snatched waistlines and flat tummies. Instead, it’s about the importance of bodily expression.

Centuries later, in 2024, full-figured women are now showing the world there isn’t a weight limit to twirling on your toes. Through brilliant routines and roaring audiences, these amazing ladies do it effortlessly — one bow and a standing ovation at a time.

Colleen Conklin (formerly Werner) is a professional dancer and licensed mental health therapist in Nashville, Tennessee. According to a 2017 interview with NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association), the self-love advocate began dancing at the tender age of 3. Per Dance Magazine, by the time Conklin hit early-to-mid adolescence, she developed body-image issues and forced herself to diet, which led to a full-blown eating disorder diagnosis at 16.

“Dance can be a great tool for moving through anxiety and depression, but it can also be harmful because it isn’t a space that represents different kinds of bodies,” she told the outlet in 2021. In 2017, Conklin created a hashtag called #BopoBallerina (Body Positive Ballerina) on Instagram, amassing thousands of followers as the online initiative spread like wildfire. She has since cultivated a safe space for those ashamed of not fitting into society’s “conventional” beauty standards.

The then 15-year-old explained to PEOPLE magazine that she’d been dancing since age 5 and the art had always brought her an intense feeling of joy.

Having been diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri (a rare brain condition that causes increased pressure in the skull) in her freshman year of high school, Howell’s story is a true testament to never giving up on yourself. Since then, she’s obtained over 600,000 followers on Instagram, 200,000 subscribers on YouTube, and a massive following of 1.8 million on TikTok.

Per an interview with Bright Side, she gushed about how she felt she was born to do dance. “I’ve always danced and wanted to dance,” she told the media site. “I don’t remember consciously choosing ballet or even thinking about becoming a dancer because, for me, it was sort of the obvious thing to do.”

Texas ballerina Freje Randall rose to prominence in 2020 after having the grand opportunity to perform with Lizzo at that year’s GRAMMY ceremony. Per an interview with Houston Life, she cited that Lizzo’s team loved her so much that they asked if she could fly to California and the rest was history.

Randall (who, at the time, was a student of Joffrey Ballet School in New York) began ballet at a young age, but started training professionally at Fort Bend Academy of Dance and Ballet Forte. “I’ve always felt isolated in classes. Simply because my skin is so much darker than everybody else’s, and my body is completely different,” she said on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “I have curves, and ballet is a very stereotypical form of dance. I knew when I didn’t get into certain companies that I auditioned for, it was because of that.”

Silk pajamas are not just a luxurious item; they hold a special appeal, particularly for plus size women seeking comfort and style in their sleepwear. The soft, lustrous silk fabric has a natural sheen that adds an air of elegance, making it an attractive choice for anyone looking to feel relaxed and refined at bedtime. Finding the perfect pair of 100% silk plus size pajamas can feel like a quest, but we’ve done the research and have made the journey a little easier for you.

What Makes Silk Plus Size Pajamas Attractive?

Silk Plus Size Pajamas
Image via BedHeadPjs.com

First, the allure of silk pajamas lies in how the fabric drapes and moves with the body. Silk is a fabric choice that screams luxury, does it not?? For plus size women, finding garments that fit their curves while ensuring comfort can be challenging, but silk has a natural flow that can enhance the silhouette without clinging uncomfortably.

Additionally, silk is breathable, allowing for temperature regulation, which is especially appreciated during those warmer nights when heavy fabrics can feel stifling.

What Are Silk Plus Size Pajamas Made of?

Interestingly, 100% silk comes from the silkworm, which produces long, continuous strands of silk fibers. The resulting fabric is smooth, lightweight, and hypoallergenic — making it an excellent choice for anyone with sensitive skin. It’s also known for its natural moisture-wicking properties, keeping the wearer dry and cool.

Silk is classified into various grades, with mulberry silk being the most premium and softest variety. This is often the type found in high-quality pajamas. However, not all silk pajamas are created equal; consumers need to read labels and ensure the product is indeed 100% silk to enjoy its full benefits.

The Pros and Cons of 100% Silk Pajamas Compared to Silk Blends

When considering silk plus size pajamas, one may ponder the pros and cons of 100% silk versus silk blends. The primary advantages of 100% silk include its luxurious feel, breathability, and temperature regulation. It’s also less likely to cause skin irritation compared to synthetic fabrics.

However, there are some cons as well. Silk that is 100% is delicate and requires special care. It may need to be dry-cleaned, and it can be more susceptible to wrinkling and damage. On the budget side, pure silk tends to be more expensive.

Silk blends, which often combine silk with cotton or polyester, can be more durable and easier to care for. They can also come at a lower price point. However, they might lack the opulent feel and many of the benefits 100% silk offers.

Challenges in Finding 100% Silk Pajamas in Plus Sizes

One of the most significant challenges for plus size women shopping for 100% silk pajamas is the limited availability in our sizes. Many brands cater to a standard size range, leaving those who wear plus sizes feeling overlooked. Additionally, the few existing options may not display the same level of style or sophistication as their standard counterparts.

Moreover, price points can vary considerably. High-end brands can charge hundreds of dollars for a pair of silk pajamas, while more affordable brands may sacrifice quality for cost. This can make finding a balance between quality and affordability tricky.

But Hope not… for those of you who are discerning and do not mind investing in your sleepwear, we have found a few silk plus size pajamas that are 100% silk, come with great reviews, and give you options to sleep in…

A Few of Our Favorite Silk Plus Size Pajamas

The Quest Continues

While the search for the right 100% silk pajamas may come with its challenges — limited options, higher costs, and the need for specific care— it’s essential to remember the rewards. The luxurious feel, elegant style, and comfort that silk provides can make it all worthwhile. Plus size women deserve to experience the same level of comfort and glamour as anyone else, and it’s only a matter of time before more brands catch on and expand their offerings.

For those on this quest, patience is key. Keep your eyes peeled for emerging brands focusing on inclusive sizing. With a little dedication and research, you could soon be drifting off to sleep wrapped in the soft embrace of silk, feeling like the queen you are. Happy pajama hunting!

IYKYK, boob tape can be a game-changer. Taping your breasts for support helps you to ditch the bra and keep your breasts supported for certain tops or dresses that look better without a bra. Things can surely get sticky when figuring out how to secure the girls, so we’re here with five tips for using boob tape so you can confidently step out.

Boob tape is a flexible, adhesive-backed tape that you can cut to size. You have the leeway to produce the look you want by shaping your breasts as you tape, creating cleavage, lift, or achieving the shape you want so your garment sits just so. Whether you’re wearing something off the shoulder, backless, or low cut, boob tape has you covered.

Five Tips for Using Boob Tape

1. Choose the right kind of tape.

Depending on your goal, you may want your tape to match your skin, or if you have sensitive skin, you may be looking for tape with or without specific ingredients. There are several brands to choose from so you find the best tape. We happen to be fans of Brassy Bra, especially for plus size busts…

2. Patch test your skin.

Doing a patch test on your skin, particularly if you have sensitive skin, will help you avoid any reactions. This tape is going to be on your body for hours, so doing a patch test will save you discomfort down the road. Simply cut off a small piece of tape and attach it to your chest or arm. Later on, observe your skin for any reaction.

3. Prep your skin.

Make sure your skin is squeaky clean and dry before you apply your tape, no matter which taping style you intend to try. It takes time to learn how to best tape your boobs, so it’s recommended to do a trial run during a time when you’re not pressed for time or have something important to get to.

4. Figure out which taping style you need.

The top of your outfit will determine the style of taping you need. You can run the tape vertically, covering your breast up to your shoulder, mimicking a bra, or fasten your tape horizontally across your chest for a strapless look. You can also tape each individual breast if your top features cutouts or a triangle shape.

5. Take care when removing your tape.

A word of caution, particularly if your tape is sweat-proof and waterproof, simply getting it wet won’t help you get it off. If anything, it can become stickier. To avoid pain, make sure to follow the directions provided by your brand so removal isn’t uncomfortable. If your tape doesn’t easily peel right off, you can use an oil, such as body oil or olive oil, to help soak the tape off.

Surely, you can’t wait to put these tips for using boob tape into action. If you can find the right tape, it’s such a versatile way to secure your chest while looking great in whatever you want to wear.

Disney has played a significant role in shaping our childhood experiences. In many ways, it feels like we grew up alongside Disney. Looking back, it’s clear that many Disney characters, for the most part, followed societal beauty standards. For example, Disney’s female characters are often portrayed as petite, while the male characters are typically tall, strong, and muscular.

But Disney has had its moments where they’ve portrayed unconventional beauties that help make kids (and adults!) feel seen. Whether we notice it or not, these portrayals impact our views of self-image.

Growing up, I rarely saw much representation on TV, whether in terms of race or body size. The Disney characters I connected with were the ones where I could see a reflection of myself. Even as a young girl, I was always searching for role models, often without realizing it. The characters listed below are the ones I naturally gravitated toward, favoring their shows or movies without a second thought. Here are six Disney characters who highlight body positivity.

A few of Disney’s Body Positive Heroes

Goofy (1995)

Body dysmorphia is a real issue among men. According to the International OCD Foundation, 60% of women and 40% of men struggle with body dysmorphia. Men are also more likely to seek cosmetic surgery and dermatological treatments. A character like Goofy doesn’t fit societal beauty standards, but despite that, he remains a loving and supportive father who stays true to his authentic self.

Goofy is silly, fun, and kind, though he is also tall, a bit clumsy, and perhaps not considered traditionally handsome. I’ve always appreciated Goofy, partly because he never worried about what others thought. Growing up, I struggled with embracing my authentic self and accepting who I was, inside and out. Goofy exemplifies what it means to be yourself and stay true to who you are.

Despite these traits, Goofy remains dedicated to his son and true to who he is, regardless of what others might say about his appearance or personality.

Mulan (1998)

Mulan was far from a typical girl. Growing up in ancient Chinese culture, she was expected to be submissive and make her family “proud” by getting married. Meanwhile, the men of China were called to fight in the war. With her father being elderly, Mulan secretly took his place, disguising herself as a man to join the war.

Mulan was one of my favorite movies growing up because I admired her confidence and how she went against traditional expectations of a Chinese girl. I also appreciated that Mulan wasn’t portrayed as a small, passive woman or the typical beauty. She broke the rules to fight for her family and country, which made her even more admirable to me.

In the end, Mulan demonstrates her strength and beauty as a woman, proving that girls can achieve anything they set their minds to, regardless of their appearance or societal expectations.

Oscar Proud (2001)

Oscar Proud is one of the few examples of a husband in Disney shows. Like Goofy, he has a huge personality, a passion for Proud Snacks, and loves his family in his own unique way. Although he wasn’t conventionally handsome, Oscar is an excellent representation of body positivity. Because he was tall and lanky, he had a beautiful and successful wife and healthy kids.

Oscar also stood out with his hilarious personality. Oscar felt familiar to me growing up, like a character you’d find in most Black families. Despite his appearance and the challenges with his failing Proud Snacks business, Oscar always stood his ground and loved his family his family to the best of his ability.

Nani (2002)

Nani from “Lilo & Stitch” is one of the rare examples of body positivity, showcasing a “regular” woman on screen. She confidently rocks midriff tops and shorts while stepping up as Lilo’s guardian, transforming from a sister to a caregiver. Nani shows us that it’s OK to be exactly who you are and navigate life on your own terms.

Nani reminded me of my older sister. As the youngest, I admired my sister for being a shero and embodying authentic beauty. She beat the odds and always made sure to take care of our family.

Raven (2003)

Although Raven isn’t a cartoon character, she is still a Disney icon! Raven exemplified confidence in her own skin. As a fashion designer, she always dressed to impress. Raven spoke up for herself and her community, never allowing her uniqueness to dim her light.

Raven was the “it” girl of the early 2000s. I remember seeing her on screen and instantly identifying with her—she was curvy, wore clothes that fit her body perfectly, and looked fabulous doing it. Even though her visions were a secret she kept from most people, I admired Raven for never dimming her light or compromising who she was just to fit in.

Bianca on Reflect (2022)

Discover Disney's body positive heroes
Source: Pinterest

Bianca is technically Disney’s first plus size character. In the short film Reflect, Bianca is a ballerina who confronts the girl in the mirror, battling body dysmorphia. Seeing Bianca in her leotard, without a corset or anything covering her body, is a powerful display of body positivity. Throughout the film, Bianca must dig deep within herself to persevere through her dance routine and recognize her true worth.

We hope you’ve enjoyed learning about these body-positive Disney characters. Representation matters from childhood through adulthood, as seeing yourself reflected on screen is essential for building self-confidence.

Growing up, terms like “big-boned,” “chubby,” “plump,” and “heavyset” ran rampant within the communities and homes we lived in. If rude aunties weren’t emphasizing the size of our frames at family functions, neighborhood bullies threw around the socially controversial word “fat” to hurt our feelings. However, as terms like “thick” and “curvy” gained popularity, some of us were left to question: Am I plus size?

It is interesting to note that “Plus Size” is a term that originated in the early 1900s, was birthed by Lane Bryant. At its inception, the term was “Misses Plus Sizes.” As the category evolved, so did the term.

In the early 2000s, there was a peak in the phrase “plus size” when the fashion world attempted to include clothing for women of larger body types. Due to insincere diversity missions, brands began to use models with waists that only extended a few centimeters over the industry’s “norm” to represent the plus size standard. Within the blink of an eye, people with slightly broad shoulders or size 10 were pushed forward as plus representations.

However, on the fashion front, more work still lies ahead. Over the years, the industry has evolved from constantly displaying small thigh gaps to a realistic array of pudgy stomachs and wide hips. Unfortunately, many still find themselves perusing the size charts of online boutiques for hours — wishing, wondering, and waiting for someone whose shape resembles theirs to leave an authentic review. Today, that problem remains when adding an extra 2-3X to the end of the item tag.

What Classifies You as Plus Size?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, “plus size” is used to “describe someone who is larger than average in size.” Interestingly, the term holds different meanings around the globe.

In this day and age, being plus size isn’t as subjective as it once was. The effects of living life as a plus size woman are validated through the experiences we come up against daily. From shopping difficulties to social discrimination, even those who are mid-size have experiences vastly different from those who are plus size.

To some, a size as small as 8 to 10 could be considered the starting point of plus size, while others stress 12 to 14. Nowadays, companies promote a size 14/16 as the beginning level of plus size. However, the language around this subject grows even murkier as we add in the shape of one’s body with their size. However you classify your size, there still lies the challenge or push back against the “societally acceptable” version of larger women shaped like Coke bottles.

Navigating This World as a Plus Size Person Shouldn’t Have to Be Hard

Here is one thing to note… Plus Size is only a category or classification, NOT a precursor or definition of your worth, value or beauty. But… while sizing does play a huge factor in determining where your categorization may fall, the everyday nuances of maneuvering in society as a bigger person are telling enough.

It’s in the looks of discomfort as we stride through the department stores, taking up space on aisles that aren’t even wide enough, to begin with. It’s in the comedic drawl when we ask for another chair or garment to (better) accommodate our shapes because we “shouldn’t have let ourselves gotten like this anyway.”

It’s even in the charts of the physicians who hurt us more than help us by writing every ailment off as a result of “being overweight.” An overactive thyroid, polycystic ovary syndrome, or even diagnosed mental issues that have developed a deep-rooted trauma bond with food are all real-life obstacles that we often face.

So, the next time we’re frowned upon (or even laughed at) after begging the world to save a seat for us or add an extra stitch to a dress or inch to a bra strap, maybe these individuals should think of all the women suffering in silence from medically induced obesity who’ve only ever wanted was someplace to fit.

Fatphobia is real, and pear shapes (smaller top, bigger bottom) shouldn’t be where inclusivity stops.

Despite the hardships and technicalities regarding one’s weight, we, as plus size women, can (most definitely) wear what we want and wear it well. However, the agony comes with the fight we have to put up to have flattering and attractive pieces to choose from. Such roadblocks often lead to hits to our self-esteem, allowing our insecurities and some of these companies’ failure to expand (and lack of compassion) to make us feel as if we simply just don’t belong.

Or… as if there’s something we need to change to meet their standard and exist comfortably. All along, it’s the world that needs to adjust — not us — and realize that one-size-fits-all doesn’t work for… all. Our desire to add something other than floral fabrics to our wardrobes shouldn’t be an inconvenience but a courtesy. Hiring someone who looks like us and understands the style necessities for us may be an extra bill for their bank account, but it will inflict a much-needed, decades-long change in plus size fashion.

All that aside, if you’re wondering, Am I plus size? Your answer lies in the relief you feel when you don’t have to walk into a retailer and be bombarded with disappointment at the little to no selections available. Your answer lies within the exhale you can take when you encounter someone who remembers that you’re just as much of a human as they are; regardless of the width of your waist, marks stretched across your body, or the amount of Xs behind your clothing size.

YES… plus size male models are (and have always been) in!

If we’re being honest, they’ve been here the whole time, but unfortunately, their market doesn’t get as much recognition as their female counterparts. You may ask, why? Well, in theory, the public scrutiny and ostracization of full-figured bodies have affected women more than men — at least, from a commercial standpoint. Thus, with the rise of the body-positive movement, women were prioritized among the celebration of larger individuals.

However, while it’s true that the increased visibility of bigger ladies was long overdue, it’s essential to spotlight the men making moves and cultivating a lane of their own. The representation of guys on the heavier side is necessary for more reasons than one. Although it’s not talked about enough, men struggle with body image and self-esteem issues as well.

Ans when you factor in that the Big & Tall industry had reached 34 Billion in 2023, we definitely need to show more love to the Big & Tall folks moving the industry forward! So how about getting to know a few of the Big & Tall Models who are bringing it??

Hot & Handsome Plus Size Male Models You Should Follow

Zach Miko

Zach Miko was the first plus size male model to sign with premier modeling agency IMG Models in 2016. The influencer introduced the company’s ‘Brawn’ division, a sector specifically tailored for big and tall men. From commanding the catwalk to taking over the timelines, Miko hasn’t ceased in his mission to strip away society’s fatphobia.

“I didn’t know I was allowed to have a positive self-image, period. I was never told it was OK to look like me, he told Yahoo! in a 2023 interview. “I wanted to be something that young guys could look [up] to — just someone to tell them that they’re doing OK, that they are OK. And that no matter the size or the shape of their body, they’re still a valid human being.

With over 200,000 followers (collectively) on Instagram and Facebook, Miko has already made an impact. Aside from modeling, he has his own clothing line  (in collaboration with plus size men’s retailer KingSize) called Meekos.

According to a sit-down with Dia & Co, Miko fell into the field through acting. Some of his earlier work includes an appearance in the Jennifer Lopez-led series Shades of Blue, along with ads for Allstate, Progressive, ESPN, and Target.

Tevin “Milo” Evans

Tevin “Milo” Evans is a stylist, model, and all-around creative raised in Brooklyn, New York. With a decade of experience in wardrobe, it wasn’t until 2017 that he was approached by digital publication Underdog Men to model for them, which “snowballed” his career.

Evans has landed features in GQ France, Vogue, Lampoon Magazine, A Magazine Curated By, The Portrait Project, and Native Son, among others. Additionally, he is the host of his own podcast, Broke & Privileged.

Without a doubt, Evans has been making room in the fashion industry beyond societal norms or superficial beauty standards — and we’re here for it!

When speaking with theCurvyMagazine in 2018, Frankel noted that he experienced alienation because of his size as a child. “It wasn’t really the abuse. It was the way I was looked at, treated, or ignored. I was just the sweaty guy with man boobs. I was always teased because of my weight and my looks.”

Frankel now has over 100,000 followers on TikTok, and all eyes are certainly on him. But this time… in a good way.

Starting college is a big deal, and it can come with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to body image as a plus size person. It’s essential to embrace who you are while navigating the campus life. Whether you are going away to school or commuting locally, it takes great bravery to trade everything familiar to you for the unknown.

Navigating life as a plus size college student can present unique challenges, but it’s important to remember that your size doesn’t define your worth or your potential for success. With the right mindset and a few tips, you can thrive in your academic journey and learn how to embrace your individuality.

Let’s get into some tips to ensure your college experience is positive and fulfilling!

7 Tips for Success as a Plus Size College Student

1. Learn and Be Kind to Your Body

Self-love goes beyond accepting your body; it’s celebrating what makes you unique. This journey starts with positive self-talk and recognizing your worth beyond physical appearance. Practice affirmations daily, reminding yourself of your strengths and abilities. Surround yourself with diverse body types through media, art, and social media; representation matters. When you see others embracing their bodies, it can empower you to do the same.

Additionally, remember that everyone’s body has a different story. Embrace your curves and recognize how they tell your journey. Share your experiences with friends or on social platforms to foster a community of understanding. By being vocal about your body positivity journey, you not only uplift yourself but also inspire others who may feel similarly.

2. Find the Right Clothing

plus size college wardrobe essentials

Clothing should enhance your confidence, not diminish it. Spend some time experimenting with different styles and fits. Look for pieces that highlight your favorite features and express your personality. Don’t hesitate to shop at stores specializing in plus size apparel; they often have trendy designs that cater specifically to your needs. Remember that online shopping or even finding secondhand plus size clothing stores, can be a treasure trove of stylish options, and many brands have size-inclusive lines that may not be available in-store.

Moreover, consider getting alterations to tailor pieces just for you. Investing in well-fitting clothing can completely change how you feel about your appearance. Consider creating a capsule wardrobe that allows for mix-and-match versatility. With the right combinations, you can easily transition from lectures to social events without sacrificing style or comfort

3. Utilizing Campus Resources

Most colleges have resources to support students mentally and emotionally. Don’t hesitate to check out counseling services; they can provide a safe space to express your feelings about body image or any college challenges. Joining support groups can also introduce you to people who share similar experiences.

Additionally, check out student organizations that support diversity and inclusion. Many campuses have LGBTQ+ groups, feminist clubs, and even plus size-specific gatherings. These groups are great for networking and fostering friendships with individuals who understand your experiences. Connecting with these communities can promote a sense of belonging, enhancing your overall college experience.

4. Social Settings and Friends

According to APA, during the first 10 weeks of college, 94% of students reported experiencing homesickness at some point. Social gatherings can be awkward, especially if you’re feeling self-conscious. Be selective about the events you attend.

Focus on finding clubs or groups that align with your interests; that’s an excellent way to meet like-minded friends. You’ve got a cool vibe—share it!

5. Staying Active and Having Fun

Moving your body doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Find activities that resonate with you—dance classes, hiking groups, or even walking with friends can be enjoyable! The goal is to stay active without the pressure of traditional workouts.

6. Nourishing Your Body

As stated in the HSOA Journal of Community Medicine and Public Health Care “research studies have shown that approximately 51% to 72% of freshman students’ gain weight their freshman year. Among those who gain weight during their freshman year, the average weight ranged from 4.6 to 7.4 pounds”. We all know dining halls can be tricky.

Focus on balance! Choose meals that nourish you, and remember it’s OK to indulge sometimes. Meal prep can be a game changer; packing your meals can help you eat what makes you feel good while avoiding unhealthy choices.

7. Building Relationships

Dating in college can feel intimidating. Be open about your preferences and boundaries. Look for partners who appreciate you for who you are and are supportive of your experiences. Remember, the right person will love you inside and out!

College is what you make it—embrace every moment and allow yourself to grow. You’ve got this! Surround yourself with positivity, stay true to your values, and don’t forget to enjoy the ride. Remember, you’re not alone in this journey, and there are always communities out there ready to welcome and support you.

Cheers to a fabulous college experience!
