The frenzy of the holiday season has come and gone, and I don’t know about you, but I’m worn out and in desperate need of a spa day! Now that January is here, I’m ready to kick up my feet a little before I get started on tackling all of the new year’s goals and to-do lists. Taking care of ourselves is still a top priority for the new year, and it looks like we’ll be at home for a while due to the pandemic. So right now, it’s a great time to incorporate some spa services that you can do at home and save a coin or two in the process.
Here Are 5 Spa Ideas You Can Do Yourself!
All of these at-home spa options are affordable and will elevate your self-care at home.
Sheet Masks
Sheet masks are an easy and affordable way to take 10 minutes to escape with a soothing treatment for your face. Sheet masks are excellent for treating dehydrated and inflamed skin with the serums that the mask is made of. My favorite is honey masks, which are super hydrating and soothing. Sheet masks are a mini facial that you can do quickly and take with you when you travel. The best part is you can get sheet masks for as little as $3 each!
Dry Brushing
We know exfoliating your face is super important, but exfoliating your body is equally important. Dry brushing is simply taking a soft bristle body brush and brushing your body, starting from the legs up in a circular motion. Some benefits of dry brushing include exfoliating and improving circulation and blood flow.
Dry brushing should be done before you take your shower or bath as you’ll be getting rid of dead skin. Make sure you moisturize well after your bath to replenish your exfoliated skin. The brushes are inexpensive and can be purchased from places like Target or your local Marshall’s.
Foot Soak
Listen, just because you’re in between pedicures doesn’t mean you should neglect your feet. A good foot soak is relaxing and an excellent way to take care of and pamper your feet. When your feet hurt or are tired, this can cause your daily activities to be more of a chore. Soaking your feet in an Epsom salt bath will not only help alleviate any pain or soreness but can also boost your mood.
I love Dr. Teal’s lavender Epsom salt soak, it’s affordable, and you can soak your feet or add it to your bath for extra relaxation. Also, regularly giving yourself a good foot massage will help with circulation and the overall health of your feet, plus it just feels so good.
Try Aromatherapy
Essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus, or bergamot can enhance your relaxation experience by improving sleep and reducing anxiety. I have an oil diffuser from Amazon that I add my oils in before bed or when I need to concentrate or focus. It’s great for bedtime as well. I like to use lavender and chamomile oil in my diffuser or rub a drop or two on my temples. Putting a few drops of your favorite essential oils in your bath will elevate not only smell great but will also aid in sore muscle relief headaches and promote a healthy night’s rest.
Make a Face & Body Scrub
DIY body scrubs are a very easy way to treat yourself to some pampering. It only takes a few ingredients you probably already have to make a scrub that will leave your skin feeling soft and rejuvenated. Before you make a scrub, make sure you know your skin type so you don’t use anything that will cause a reaction or irritation.
One of the easiest ones to make is a brown sugar scrub. Brown sugar is a great exfoliant and gentle enough to be used on your face and body. Mix brown sugar and a small amount of coconut or olive oil into a bowl, and apply to your body, elbows, knees, and neck. Leave it on for about 5-10 minutes, massage gently into your skin, and then rinse with warm water.
I make a lip scrub with brown sugar and vaseline and keep a small jar of it on my vanity. Using a lip scrub is great for making sure your lips are soft, exfoliated, and ready to apply your favorite lipsticks.
Since we may be inside for the winter with the pandemic raging on, now is a great time to save a coin or two while giving yourself a relaxing spa day from the comfort of your home.
Good suggestions! I like your blog because it encourages women to love themselves and feel beautiful.
