Okay so, I know what you’re thinking! Who cares for plus size floral prints in 2023, right!? Before you crucify me, please hear me out! Florals have, in a sense been collectively banned by the plus size community for more than a few years. Women have turned their backs to plus size floral prints calling them ‘matronly’, stating that they’ll make you appear wider in size and that they should be restricted to warmer weather and/or occasion wear.
Although, I too have fallen victim to this community wide ban, I have to pay homage where the credit is due. I vividly recall my college freshman days (circa 2006), struggling to find stores that even carried my size, let alone fashionable options.
I was forced to learn how to make it work with the alternatives I was provided. Floral prints were one of those ‘ole reliables’ I could always bet on. With that being said, I think plus size floral prints deserve the same loyalty it showed us!
Here Are My Top 4 Tips for Styling Plus Size Floral Prints In 2023:
SIZE MATTERS:
People complain that floral prints of smaller sizes can easily make a woman appear larger. In my experience, the fit of the clothing is much more significant than the scale of the print.
Ensure that your clothing is not too tight on your frame and that it’s comfortable. If you’re clothing fits properly, you don’t have to spend as much time dwelling over the size of the selected pattern.
COLOR COORDINATE:
Find floral patterns with colors that coordinate well together. Look for colors that compliment your complexion and will make you stand out. Depending on how much you like to shine, find colors that contrast well together, or bright florals with a dark base to make the pattern pop.

BALANCED ACCESSORIES:
The best way to amplify a look is to add accessories. Keeping accessories simple is often the golden rule, but let’s be serious for a moment. If you know me, simple is a rarity in my vocabulary.
Come to think of it, so are rules haha. I love to pair basic prints with statement jewelry, and complex florals with thin, layered chains. When it comes to adding shoes to the mix, my absolute favorite way to style feminine florals is to add combat boots and a Moto jacket!

CONFIDENCE IS KEY:
Confidence is truly key! Wear what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful. Don’t be afraid to experiment with florals of different sizes, colors and articles of clothing (ie. skirts, swimwear, jackets).
You’ll never know what works best for you if you don’t explore what lies outside of your comfort zone.
