Your Skin and Beauty Life Hits Different After 40, and We're Loving It!

I remember watching the Oprah Winfrey Show when she had her big 40th Birthday celebration. She had other famous women like Gladys Knight, Patti, and Aretha all sitting around and telling them how much they loved turning 40.

They were all super glamorous, making turning forty sound like something to celebrate instead of fear. When I saw that, I knew that is how I wanted to feel when I turned 40, free, glamorous, and self-assured.

It’s true what they say; things do change once you hit 40. Not in the overly dramatic, over-the-hill trope that society has for women of a certain age. Of course, there are naturally occurring physical changes, slower metabolism, achy joints, and all that. But for me, it’s been more of a mental and emotional shift.

The maturity and self-awareness that I’ve experienced in my 40’s have been the most noticeable and most appreciated change. I’ve opened myself up to new possibilities in the way I wanted my life to look and let go of the societal ideals of how it “should look.”

Play By the Rules? No Thanks.

I don’t play by the rules when it comes to beauty. I wear vibrant eyeshadow or black lipstick if the mood suits me. Being in your 40’s or older, you’re expected to tone it down as you age, but that’s not my preference. Instead, I use products that enhance my skin and worry less about every blemish or imperfection being covered. Though I’m trained as a makeup artist, I pay close attention to my skin and have established a solid skincare routine as I age. Regular exfoliation and hydrating serums help keep my skin healthy and glowing.

Ageing is a Blessing

The best way to describe my life at 46 is ‘more.’ I’ve never felt more confident, more beautiful, and freer than I do right now. I see aging as a blessing. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to grow older. My 40’s are LIT, and I believe it’s just going to get better from here.
